Welcome to Bowan Island Cafe Bakery

Set amidst the steeply forested shores of British Columbia, Canada lies
Bowan Island. Surrounded by the bountiful waters of Howe Sound, the island was a natural haven for early merchant ships and settlers. These Europeans brought with them their wholesome, nourishing cooking techniques that have endured to this day. At Bowan Island Bakery, we seek to perpetuate the time honoured baking practices which we were privileged to learn in the region.

At Bowan Island Bakery we produce a wide range of traditional hand-crafted breads and pastries all of which have been sourced from British Columbia and also the Pacific Northwest region of the U.S.A. The Irish breads we bake are derived from old recipes passed amongst the Irish communities of the Howe Sound islands, and the sourdoughs are akin to the older-style breads which sustained the British Columbian and Alaskan gold miners. We use predominantly organic grains and have rejected the use of commercial additives, pre-mixes or preservatives.
